ROLE SUMMARY

The Egypt Commercial IT & Digital Director is the senior IT leader for Egypt and a member of the Country Senior Leadership Team. This role owns the Commercial IT & Digital agenda end-to-end, aligning with global, regional, and MEA strategies while tailoring execution to Egypt’s market dynamics and strategic priorities. The Director is the primary point of contact for all IT matters in Egypt, accountable for technology strategy, delivery, governance, risk, and adoption that enable commercial growth, customer engagement, and business transformation.

What you’ll do

  • Strategy and Leadership: Lead the Egypt Commercial IT & Digital strategy and roadmap, ensuring alignment with global and MEA priorities while addressing local market needs. Advise SLT peers on technology-enabled opportunities and risks, and represent IT externally with key partners where appropriate.
  • Business Outcomes: Translate business goals into an integrated portfolio of digital and IT initiatives, delivering measurable outcomes in revenue growth, productivity, customer engagement, and cost optimization. Ensure technology investments directly support brand, key account, and channel strategies.
  • Team Leadership: Build, lead, and develop a high-performing Egypt Commercial IT & Digital team. Foster a culture of accountability, empowerment, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Coach leaders and individual contributors to deliver high-value capabilities.
  • Operating & Governance Model: Operationalize and continuously improve digital/IT operating model and governance (demand management, prioritization, architecture, quality, and risk). Ensure effective delivery of integrated business solutions across Commercial, Medical, Market Access, and other functions.
  • Program Delivery: Oversee major initiatives such as automation, digitization, omnichannel engagement, CRM optimization, advanced analytics, and AI use cases including the roll-out of Digital Health solutions in Egypt. Drive execution excellence through best-in-class PMO practices (scope, resources, milestones, benefits realization).
  • Platforms & Capabilities: Own deployment and adoption of commercial platforms and capabilities (data and analytics, CRM/CLM, field force effectiveness, AI/ML, cloud solutions, enterprise platforms). Ensure high user adoption, robust change management, and sustained business value.
  • Data, Security & Compliance: Ensure adherence to global and local data privacy laws, compliance standards, cybersecurity protocols, and audit requirements. Partner with Compliance, Legal, Information Security, and Quality to remain audit-ready and regulatorily aligned.
  • Architecture & Integration: Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, standards, and integration patterns. Maintain consistency with global platforms while enabling local innovation where justified by value and risk.
  • Financial Management: Plan and manage IT/digital budgets with strong financial governance. Optimize resource allocation, vendor management, contracts, and commercial terms; track ROI and benefits realization.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain strong collaboration with global/regional IT & Digital teams, Commercial leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders. Communicate clearly on strategy, roadmaps, risks, dependencies, and outcomes.
  • Change & Adoption: Lead organizational change management to drive successful technology adoption, process improvements, and cultural shifts required to realize business transformation.
  • Risk & Continuity: Oversee IT risk management, business continuity, disaster recovery, service management, and incident response for Egypt. Ensure service reliability, performance, and user satisfaction.

Essential for the role

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics). MBA or relevant postgraduate qualification is desirable.
  • Experience: 12+ years of progressive experience in IT/Digital roles, including 3+ years in leadership positions within multinational organizations—ideally in life sciences, healthcare, or other regulated industries.
  • Executive Presence: Strong influencing, advisory, and communication skills with the ability to engage senior leaders, challenge constructively, and drive decisions.
  • Strategic Translation: Proven ability to convert business strategies and tactical plans into IT/digital roadmaps, operating plans, and measurable outcomes.
  • People Leadership: Demonstrated experience leading, coaching, and developing teams (both individual contributors and program leaders) in complex, matrixed environments.
  • Delivery Excellence: Track record in leading large-scale programs and transformations. Strong program/project management capability; deep understanding of agile delivery, product lifecycle management, and modern delivery practices.
  • Commercial Domain: Experience with commercial capabilities such as CRM, omnichannel orchestration, field force effectiveness, customer data and martech platforms, advanced analytics, and AI/ML use cases.
  • Governance & Standards: Familiarity with ISO standards, ITIL, Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC/SLC), validation practices, and GxP-adjacent considerations. Understanding of enterprise architecture and cloud governance.
  • Data & Security: Strong grasp of data privacy, cybersecurity, identity and access management, and regulatory frameworks; experience ensuring audit readiness and compliance in local and global contexts.
  • Financial Acumen: Experience in planning and managing financial budgets, vendor ecosystems, contracts, and benefits tracking.
  • Language: Fluency in English, Arabic

Desirable for the role

  • Experience in pharmaceutical or healthcare commercial operations, including omnichannel and HCP engagement.
  • Hands-on exposure to global enterprise platforms (e.g., major CRM, analytics, data platforms, content management, marketing automation).
  • Experience driving automation (RPA/IPA) and AI-enabled use cases in commercial settings.
  • Prior leadership of IT in-country as the local accountable owner for IT services, risk, and stakeholder management.
